| Domaine Pierre Ponnelle |
|
Pierre Ponnelle has been an important Burgundy house for over 100 years. They
are owners of prestigiousDomaines largely made up of Premiers & Grand Crus
notably Musigny, Bonnes Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Chambolle
Musigny Les Argilières, Vougeot Le Prieuré, Corton Clos du Roi,
Beaune Grèves, Beaune Clos du Roi. Alongside the wines of Burgundy, Pierre
Ponnelle also offers an impressive selection of wines from Beaujolais. This particular
Pinot Noir is a special export particularly for the United States. It is delightfully
aromatic and sits softly on the tongue like a quality Burgundy should. You won’t
believe how sophisticated and well-made this Pinot is once you see the price.
For under $12, I challenge anyone to find a better Pinot Noir than this.

| Mas de Morties, Pic
Saint Loup |

|
Thirty km north of Montpellier in the northern area of the Coteaux du Languedoc stands the towering Pic Saint-Loup (alt. 650m) – the leading spur of rock as one moves north into the geology of the Massif Central. Wild yet peaceful, rugged yet serene, this tranquil setting is home to a wide variety of wild life making it easy to see why the region is so attractive to hikers and nature lovers. But Pic St-Loup has also become a destination for wine lovers due to the growing reputation for quality red wines based on Syrah with varying amounts of Grenache, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Mas de Mortiès is situated in a charming, remote spot on the slopes of Pic St-Loup Mountain where Rémy Duchemin has been making the wine since 1993. The vineyard property, 21ha, all south facing, was created by falling limestone from the mountain that mixed with the dark black soil and an abundance of oyster shells; evidence that this area was once under the sea. The star of the lineup is Rémy’s Pic St-Loup rouge made from 60% Syrah, 30% Mourvèdre and 10% Grenache. This wine has an intoxicating aroma of blackberry jam, gorgeously layered with a mix of Herbes de Provence, garrigue and a seductive, silky mouth feel of deep, black cherry.
